What does it do :
This chip when fix to an adapter (available separately) mainly enables the camera AF confirmation indicator when you turn the focusing ring manually until the subject gets focus. There's no communication between the lens and camera mounted on the adapter with this chip. Aperture and focusing are still manual whether AF or manual lens is mounted.

This product includes the IC chip, and an alignment template.
You can glue it to your existing EOS adapters without having to purchase a new adapter.
Compatible with ALL Film SLR and ALL Digital DSLR (including EOS 5D 1D etc)

With this alignment template, the chip can be easily installed onto any EOS adapters swiftly and accurately first time & every time

New series of AF emulator for Canon EOS digital and film cameras

From autumn 2008 the new AF emulator chip generation IV are produced. Externally the new AF emulator chip looks exactly like the previous version, but internally it’s completely revamped. As from Spring 2009, this emulator chip has improvement to the quality of metal contacts (i.e. the gold plated contacts are much more shiny and therefore quality of contact to the camera pins are better!).

The new version has the programming option, that is, you can change AF emulator chip’s aperture and focal length settings without removing it from the camera. In addition, the new AF emulator chip has calibration function that makes focus confirmation more accurate.

The new AF emulator chip doesn't use the MF mode at default setting because now focusing works with AF (autofocus) mode. Firstly, this improves focusing accuracy. Secondly, this enables the user to calibrate AF emulator chip for different kinds of lenses. Thirdly, the AF confirmation beep is now available for all cameras (e.g., for film camera EOS 3000N). Focusing sensor is much more sensitive in this mode.

Another new feature is the "hard" blocking of shutter release until you get the confirmation signal. If you hold the shutter release when fully depressed, the shot will be taken immediately when you get the AF confirmation. This "Hard" blocking can be disabled by programming the chip to "MF" mode (function F9 as in the programming instruction). signal. This allows taking fast-moving subjects.

Lastly, the most important advantage of this new version is the ability to change settings of AF emulator chip using the Camera itself. See programming instructions.

This AF emulator chip is suitable for all Canon EOS digital and film cameras.

AF emulator chip's settings:
1) Aperture •  From F1.0 to F64, the step depends on camera’s model
2) Focal length   •  From 1 mm to 65535 mm, with each step of 1mm
3) Correction of focus confirmation dot •  17 levels
4) Focus mode •  AF / MF
5) Entering program mode •  Delay from 1 sec to 99 sec, with each step of 1 sec

Additional E-TTL flash Enabled Function

As many manual lens users are awared, E-TTL does not function properly with ordinary adapter. With this proprietary Europe made  chip module on the adapter, your E-TTL flash gives you the correct exposure everytime, regardless of aperture setting of your lens, be it f1.8 or f32.

On certain lenses, FEC (flash exposure compensation) is required, you only need to do it once when you change your lens.  Afterwhich, E-TTL will perform its role at all aperture settings.

Installation Guide:


1) Place template on the adapter, making sure the protruding maker (on the template) and the dented gap (for locking the adapter to the camera) are aligned. Should you have purchased this chip from our earlier batches, DO NOT use the alignment template (round type) from earlier batches on this chip, it has a different measurement.


2) Stick the black plastic back support to the chip. Whenever possible, use the bigger back support that comes with the set, the smaller back support is for some adapter with smaller clearance. For M42 adapter, skip this step



3) Stick the the chip to the adapter

User Guide

1) Mount your lens to the camera with the adapter that is fixed with this chip.

2) Set the camera to A (aperture priority) or M (manual) mode

4) When the chip is working, an aperture value will be displayed on the camera. i.e. defaulted at f1.4

5) Half press and hold shutter release button, at the same time perform manual focusing by turning the lens focusing ring. The AF confirm indicator in the viewfinder lights up when something gets into focus.

6) If necessary, set the camera exposure compensation (mainly for very bright lens e.g. beyond f1.8)
 

Troubleshooting guide:

Question: My camera does not show an aperture value (i.e. 'f--')
Answer: When there's no aperture value shown on the camera, it means the chip is not working.  Please proceed to check the following, they are the main cause of almost all problems.

a) Switch the camera main power off, remove and reinstall the battery.

b) Check the alignment of the chip, make sure the chip is installed at the correct position

d) Clean the metal contact on the chip, sand it with a fine sand paper where necessary. Glue residue may have smeared while fixing the chip to adapter, and glue residue is not visible sometimes.

e) On all EOS 1 series, the old D30 and D60 bodies, you have to enable the AF switch www.tagotech.com/pic/fixing-chip-6.jpg
(This is not required on all other bodies that does not have an AF switch)

f) Reset your camera settings to factory default if the above doesn't solve the problem.
